Concrete
Pad was the only facility for shoring up a sinking foundation
until the mid-1960s.
This was a cheap, quick fix but it was only temporary. The soil
under the block continued to move and the repair would have to
be repeated. |

Bell
Bottom Pier, a more permanent solution was developed, in the
mid-1960s, to handle problems when there is a good bearing soil
within 12 feet of the base of the slab.
This procedure takes 2-4 weeks and makes quite a mess.
It is hard on flower beds and shrubs. There is a lot of traffic
(wheel barrows, cement trucks and workers). It is messy because
of the dirt taken out in the drilling process. |
|
Pre-Cast
Piling was developed, in the early 1980s, as a way to get
some of the benefits of bell bottom piers and avoid much of the
mess, time and cost.
Most jobs are completed in 2-3 days and there is little mess or
damage to flowers and shrubbery |
